We don't know a lot about what Matt Reeves will bring to the table with The Batman, but the filmmaker talks here about what appeals to him about a superhero he views as a "tortured soul."

The Los Angeles Daily News recently caught up with War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves to discuss the release of that movie, but talk inevitably turned to The Batman. After explaining that it's too soon to talk about his take on the character, the filmmaker shed some light on why he signed up to take the helm and you'll be glad to know that he's been a Batman fan since childhood.

"It’s a strange thing to be involved in the two franchises which were the two that I was connected to most as a child," the director told the site. "I just was obsessed with Batman when I was a kid. What I find so interesting about him as a character is that, as far a superhero goes, he’s not superhuman, he is a person. And he is a tortured soul who is grappling with his past and trying to find a way to be in a world that has a lot that’s wrong with it and trying to find a way to reconcile all of that."

"That is a really powerful character, in the same way that Caesar is such a powerful character."

We'll hopefully hear more from Reeves over the summer, but it's good to know that a fan of Batman is taking charge of this movie now Ben Affleck no longer wants to direct. What he'll bring to the table remains to be seen as it's possible that he's ditched Deathstroke and started totally from scratch.

If a recent report about the Supergirl season finale is to be believed, one of Superman's greatest foes may be returning to the small screen much sooner than you might've expected. Come take a look!

Get ready to kneel because Bleeding Cool is reporting that Supergirl season two has cast Mark Gibbon as the notorious Superman villain General Zod. The Canadian actor has started filming scenes and is expected to make his debut in the season finale, which is currently in production and set to air May 22.

Now, considering that The CW has made no official statement on the matter, it's probably best to label it as a rumor for the time being. However, if we look at what we already know about the second season finale, the report does seemingly line up with what we've been told as he's expected to make his debut in an episode that's been confirmed to feature the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Kara's super cousin.

It's conceivable that the show is setting up Zod as the main villain of season three and that Superman's return will have more to do with recapturing the Kryptonian general rather than with whatever Rhea has cooked up. Another possibility is that Rhea's master plan may be to actually release Zod from the Phantom Zone, although that's probably unlikely with the contempt she's shown for Kara's Kryptonian heritage.

Gibbon is plenty familiar with the superhero genre and with Superman lore especially, having worked on four episodes of Smallville and having played Roughneck in 2013's Man of Steel. He has also lent his voice to episodes of Spider-Man: Unlimited and X-Men: Evolution and has appeared in several genre films, including The Chronicles of Riddick, Underworld: Awakening, and The 6th Day

So, if this proves to be true, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet’s former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.

The show airs Mondays on The CW.

While Syfy hasn't officially ordered Krypton to series, a trailer for the pilot episode has found its way online, with the first bits of footage, and it actually looks pretty cool. Come take a look!

"The blood of House El will always bind us together."

Last we heard, Syfy was taking their planned Superman prequel series Krypton to Serbia to film the pilot episode, which would star relative newcomers Cameron Cuffe and Georgina Campbell in the lead roles as Seg-El and Lyta Zod, respectively.

While the series hasn't officially been ordered by the network just yet, it appears as though the trailer for that recently completed pilot has been released online and it gives us our first real look at the upcoming series, which introduces Kal-El's grandfather and reveals his struggle to redeem his family's honor while also saving his beloved world from unprecedented chaos. The planet also seems to draw visual inspiration from the Krypton seen in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, which probably shouldn't come as a huge surprise as David S. Goyer penned both scripts.

Colm McCarthy (Sherlock) helmed the pilot episode with a script from Goyer and Ian Goldberg.

Well, it's official: Tyler Hoechlin is set to reprise his role as Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman, in the second season finale of The CW's hit superhero drama, Supergirl. Read below.

After Tyler Hoechlin's debut as Superman in the season premiere of Supergirl was met with such a warm reception from critics and fans, alike, it looks like Round 2 might be just around the corner.

Just moments ago, E! News reported that Hoechlin will reprise his role as the Man of Steel in the upcoming season finale, which will air on May 22. Plot details weren't disclosed, but it's not a stretch to assume his trek back to National City might have something to do with lending a hand to his cousin Kara in her attempt to take down both Rhea and her evil forces as well as the looming Cadmus threat.

At the moment, the Melissa Benoist-led series is on its spring hiatus, but when it returns at the end of the month, Kara will have her hands full with both Jack Spheer and Lena Luthor, the latter of whom may be on the verge of discovering Kara's biggest secret.
